How to Evaluate Network Marketing Products That Will Bring Long-Term Success
Without a doubt one of the keys to the success of your business is the network marketing products. Your MLM products are the foundation for building a strong customer base and will ensure residual income for years. All successful network marketing businesses have a solid product line with a lasting demand in the marketplace.
Companies with mediocre network marketing products or no product at all, combined with a lot of hype, will not last long and should be avoided at all costs. These companies have non-sustainable business models and are sometimes referred to as Pyramid Schemes.
When evaluating your network marketing products keep these criteria in mind...
"But, I Don't Want to Sell Cosmetics!"
Um...then don't.
Are you passionate about your network marketing products?
Most, if not all, network marketing companies require you to also be a consumer of your own products. Generally you're required to make a minimum purchase each month from your own product line to keep your "independent distributor" status with the company.
If you do not believe in the products you're selling, or don't even like them, how can you expect others to purchase them from you? Not to mention the fact you will be wasting money on things you won't be using.
When asking questions about a particular item, your customers will certainly notice a scripted answer compared to real life experiences you have with your network marketing products.
Does this mean you have to use all of your product line?...certainly not. But, at least have a firm knowledge of the benefits of the products you don't use on a regular basis so that you can answer any questions.
Your business should be fulfilling and fun. Otherwise it's just more work. So why not put your heart into network marketing products that you truly enjoy. It makes life a whole lot easier. And, your business will grow because of it.
Remember the Pet Rock®?
In the 1970's Gary Dahl created the Pet Rock®. He complained that real dogs, cats, and other common pets were too messy, hard to train, and expensive. Gary's Pet Rock® was cheap (he used the Rosarita Beach Stone which cost him a penny). Dahl also wrote a "Pet Rock® Training manual" which was included in the cardboard box shaped like a pet carrying case. Sales price...$3.95. In October of 1975 he sold millions...By the following February, sales had all but stopped. (Source: Historical Dictionary of the 1970s, James Stuart Olson, Greenwood Publishing Group, 1999, p.284)
Successful MLM products are never fads!
Fads enter the marketplace quickly, are received with great enthusiasm, hit their sales peak very early, and almost overnight their popularity is gone. The reason -- they don't satisfy a strong customer need.
You have to ask yourself, "Is this product something any home could use and does it provide value to their lives?"
Using the example of the Pet Rock®, you can see that a lot of money can be made in a short amount of time with fads. But, if you want a long-term stable business that provides years of residual income...these products just won't cut it.

Beware of the get rich quick mentality!

The best network marketing products are consumable.
Consumable products will have your customers coming back to you for more over and over again. Great examples of consumable network marketing products would include: Nutritional supplements, skin care, personal care, and home care products. Even fee based services like legal, tax, and travel services would be considered consumable since you'd be purchasing these services on a regular basis.
It's these repeat sales that build your residual income. And, with any luck, they will be placed on auto-ship so that these products are delivered to them every month, automatically.
Can the company's product line have non-consumable items too?
Sure! These are generally big ticket items such as air purifiers or water filtration systems that your customer would only purchase once. I know quite a few people that have made a lot of money selling non-consumables. It just makes their job harder because the customers won't continue to purchase on a regular basis.
What happens if they fail to continually find new customers?...business stops.
"But, I can get this at WAL*MART."
Your network marketing products should be high quality.
Why would someone purchase your products when they can go to their local retail store and buy a product that performs the same, tastes the same, and in most cases be cheaper than your network marketing products?
The reason -- Your MLM products might have more expensive ingredients than the off-the shelf items, may be "All Natural", come in a concentrated form, and/or out perform the competition.
Side Note: There will always be products better than yours, either in the market now or in the future. Many distributors believe that their product is superior to all others out there. However, it doesn't matter if you think your product is superior. It really doesn't matter if your product actually does work for people (although it should). What really matters is how you market your products.
Whether we want to believe this or not, it's just the way things are.
Need an example? I thought you'd never ask!
Do you think you can cook a better hamburger than McDonalds does? Most people do. So why is it that McDonalds has sold billions of hamburgers around the world....their marketing!
Don't get me wrong. The quality of your products is important and should be looked at when choosing a MLM company. My point is... when marketing your business don't put all of the emphasis on the quality of the products.
